Recipe:
Ingredients:
- 1 package of pre-made pie crusts (or homemade if preferred)
- 6-7 medium-sized Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/2 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Place one pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish, pressing it gently into the bottom and along the sides. Set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and lemon juice. Toss until the apples are evenly coated with the sugar mixture.
- Pour the apple filling into the prepared pie crust, spreading it out evenly.
- Roll out the second pie crust and use it to cover the top of the pie. You can create a lattice crust or simply place it over the filling and crimp the edges to seal.
- If desired, brush the top crust with a little milk or egg wash for a golden finish.
- Place the pie on a baking sheet (to catch any drips) and bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
- Once baked, remove the pie from the oven and let it cool for at least 15-20 minutes before slicing.
- Just before serving, drizzle the caramel sauce over the top of the pie. Slice and enjoy!
Tips and Hints:
- For the best flavor and texture, choose firm, tart apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp.
- If you prefer a deeper caramel flavor, you can add a splash of caramel extract to the apple filling.
- Serve the pie warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra decadent treat.
- Leftover pie can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Simply reheat slices in the microwave or oven before serving.
